Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a veteran of the rodeo world
A family of ranchers in Montana face off against others who encroach on their land. Forry J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montanan accent and reverts to the SoCal speaking voice he usually uses.
Costner is a great actor as the Duttons
Featured on WatchMojo: Top 10 Summer TV Shows That Aren’t on Your Radar (2018). (Review is for the first two seasons only) I came into this show not expecting to like it, but the plot, acting, and cinematography are great. It’s basically mob wars in Montana with occasional huge doses of testosterone (cowboys with guns on horses while fishing)!
The show gets heavy early in the second season, but starts rolling again in the middle
The show is at its best when it shows the chessboard moving between the Duttons and their enemies. Kelsey Asbill is the weakest as Monica and plays the bad hand poorly, the plot is awkwardly thrown together, and the acting just doesn’t hit the mark. I think Cole Hauser as Rip might be the strongest actor (besides Costner), and I’m looking forward to all the scenes Rip was in.
Thomas Rainwater is also great
The plot is buzzing, and the scenery is beautiful. Just like Cormac McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses; it was a little more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show is similar. I highly recommend it and wish I had waited that long to watch it.
